UPDATE 06/28/2020: Am reclaiming Media Library space by deleting old pics.
Hard to find any decent desktop Linux Distros anymore, beyond the ones listed in Karmi’s Top 10 Linux Distros & Karmi’s Top 3-5 Linux Distros for Windows Newbies, so have just tried another ‘Specialty’ Distro. DistroWatch lists Kaisen Linux in their ‘Projects waiting evaluation’ section since it is still new – it’ll point you to the French Kaisen Linux website, where it is listed as…here, I’ll just have Google translate what they say:
What is that ? – Kaisen Linux is a system rescue based on the Debian GNU / Linux distribution.
It is a complete operating system whose originality is to provide a set of tools dedicated to system administration and covering all the needs for diagnosing and dealing with faults or failures of an installed system and its components. .
The most important system tools are available. It is thus possible to modify the partitioning of the hard disks, to save the data or the system, to repair the file system and recover lost data, or to reactivate the boot manager, to carry out a deep formatting of a hard drive and many other things! List of tools here.
I like portable Distros that can be used as a system rescue, but this is just another Distro that will have difficulty beating BionicPup (or any of the Puppy Linux Distros) as a portable OS since this Beta version seems unable to connect to my Wi-Fi wireless internet connection…spots the connection, but can’t connect to it. However, it has a bunch of interesting rescue tools, is fairly easy to move around in, and has great possibilities as a rescue Distro if it can fix Wi-Fi connection problems…surely, even “system” administrators need Wi-Fi at times, I guess?! Used Rufus to create first ‘Live’ USB with persistence, but persistence didn’t work either, so created another ‘Live’ USB inside Kaisen using its balenaEtcher utility, but that didn’t offer persistence & it still couldn’t connect to my Wi-Fi.
They had two ISO’s to download, but only the Beta version seemed to offer any speed to the download…the other ISO would take all day, even if it ever finished – so I just stopped trying to download it. Here are 3 pics from my testing…
Good looking desktop…
Definitely has potential, IMHO. Also tested it on another computer, so for the most part its hardware recognition was pretty good, i.e. only had Wi-Fi connection problem, which is pretty good for any new Beta Linux Distro…
