Google unveils first Chromebooks
SAN FRANCISCO–Google announced its first commercial Chromebook laptops Wednesday at its annual Google I/O conference here.
Samsung and Acer will each be offering Chromebook laptops starting June 15. The Samsung Chromebook will cost $429 for the Wi-Fi only version and $499 for the 3G version. Acer’s Wi-Fi only Chromebook will cost $349.
I have recently paid a total of $524.56 for two new Chromebooks (HP 14a-na0023cl ‘n Samsung 12.2″ XE521QAB-K01). Well, let me rephrase that “new” to ‘New Old’ since there is actually ‘New New’ versions and/or even newer versions!?! 😉
I shopped hard for bargain prices on those two computers…all the while having to avoid the 1368 x 768 (+ or –) old technology displays, i.e. it wasn’t easy finding them. I wasn’t about to pay the high prices I was seeing for a product I knew basically nothing about. Did know that a Celeron processor is a great CPU when used right ‘n did know that I wanted a display with at least 1920 x 1080 FHD resolution.
The ‘New Old’ HP Chromebook – 14a-na0023cl had a Release Year: 2020 @ $209.99 w/ free shipping ‘n no tax. Not sure what the ‘New New’ or newer models cost, but more than Chromebook novice me was going to pay.
The ‘New Old’ Samsung Plus V2 XE521QAB-K01 had a Release Year: 2019 @ $299.99 w/ $14.58 shipping ‘n no tax. Looks like the ‘New New’ model runs around $449.99.
Many shoppers never read the specs. The “Release Year” looked important to me, but as a Chromebook novice I was looking for ‘New Old’ prices. May go for ‘New New’ prices when ‘n if I buy another Chromebook.

OSes do updates ‘n upgrades, at some point they stop wid ‘Da Old, and start wid ‘Da New. Here’s another way to check, when you actually have the Chromebook:

Easy to move around in, but is still going to take me a while to learn it. When these Chromebooks stop getting the updates I’ll make up my mind what to do next (or possibly sooner). 😉 They are not going to be my main OS ‘n computer platform anyway, but so far they are looking like an excellent ‘Portable Companion’ platform for my WIN10 Pro Main desktop computers.
