Well, CloudReady OS is probably the real ‘Official‘ Linux version of Chrome OS, IMHO. CloudReady ‘n Chrome OS only require ‘Pesky Passwords‘ once, when logging in, and have no ‘Pesky Passwords‘ or annoying “Authenticate” popups after that. Canonical is one of the main homes for the Linux ‘Nanny‘, so it’s ‘possibly‘ just another Linux version not meant for “normal people,” IMHO, but that ‘opinion‘ is from very brief testing. 😉

Still, Ubuntu Web wasn’t too bad wid pesky passwords, tho I didn’t do a lot of testing of it. Installed it wid automatic login, so there was no password needed when logging in, then in brief testing only a Terminal sudo password requirement showed up, and that was the only time I caught a glimpse of the Linux ‘Nanny‘.

At that time, I was trying the WayDroid app – “A container-based approach to boot a full Android system on a regular GNU/Linux system like Ubuntu.” Didn’t get it working, but am sure I was missing required ‘Stuff‘ like possibly opening a “/e/store” account for Android.

Ubuntu Web Remix 20.04.3 Released with /e/ on WayDroid and Linux Kernel 5.11:

Creator of Ubuntu Unity and UbuntuEd, Rudra Saraswat announced today the release of Ubuntu Web Remix 20.04.3 as the latest version of this unofficial Ubuntu flavor that aims to be a Chrome OS alternative.

While it has an emphasis on Web Apps, Ubuntu Web Remix looks and feel like a real GNU/Linux distribution that you can easily put on your desktop or laptop computer. It features the GNOME desktop environment by default, but with a minimal set of native Linux apps pre-installed.

But the biggest new feature is /e/ on WayDroid, a port of the popular Anbox alternative WayDroid to /e/ 10, allowing users to use Android or /e/ apps with native performance from the /e/ store in Ubuntu Web.

Not something I’m into, but Android apps are very popular…hugely popular! 😉

Ubuntu Web is probably someting to consider, especially if your Chromebook’s Auto Update Expiration (AUE) is getting closer. Not bad in brief testing…
