(NOTE: Having Blog issues and restored to earlier date, so this post is a redo…) Purchased the 1883: A Yellowstone Origin Story on Blu-ray a week or so ago, and started watching it the other day – WOW!!! Was watching another series when it arrived, so finished it before starting this one. My TV is for watching DVDs & Blu-rays.
This isn’t a “review” since Taylor Sheridan‘s work now sells in advance…so to speak. Premiered on December 19, 2021, on Paramount+, and the Blu-ray hadn’t been out long when I purchased it. Not even a year yet:
‘1883’ Is Paramount+’s Most Watched Original Series Premiere Ever
Taylor Sheridan has another hit on his hands.
1883, the prequel to Yellowstone, was Paramount+’s most watched original series premiere ever, more than double the previous record. It was also the most social drama series Sunday night across streaming. The sampling event on Paramount Network, following a new episode of Yellowstone, was also a hit, drawing 4.9 million total viewers, the biggest new series premiere on cable since 2015.
Season 1 of 1883 is a 10-part series, and I have finished 5 of them. Main cast to this point has been, Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Marc Rissmann, Eric Nelsen, and James Landry Hébert. Only recognized Sam Elliott & LaMonica Garrett from that groups as actors, but knew Tim McGraw & Faith Hill as singers. All other actors have been excellent to superb up to this point…great performances by one ‘n all.
Isabel May has stood out the most, since one of the points Taylor Sheridan is bringing out in this series is the grit of America’s Frontier/Pioneer Women.
Isabel May’s character, Elsa Dutton, has narrated at the beginning of each episode so far, and seems she also closes the episode. ‘Be warned of major spoilers for 1883 ahead‘ – Quotes.
Season 1, Episode 1: ‘1883’ season premiere opens in what appears to be a future episode scene (one that I have not seen yet) wid Elsa Dutton narrating…it goes something like this:
“I remember the first time I saw it. Tried to find words to describe it. But I couldn’t. Nothing had prepared me. No books. No teachers. Not even my parents. I heard a thousand stories… But none could describe this place. It must be witness to be understood. And yet, I’ve seen it. And I understand it less than when I first cast eyes on this place.
“Some called it the American Desert. Others, the Great Plains. But those phrases were invented by professors at universities. Surrounded by the illusion of order. And the fantasy of right and wrong. To know it, you must walk. Bleed until it’s dark. Drown in its rivers. Then its name becomes clear. It is Hell. And there are demons everywhere.”
“But if this is Hell, then I must be a demon, too. And I’m already dead.”
Then…
Then…
Have already ordered ‘n received my 1883 hat:
This is part of my ‘Yellowstone‘ – Category series. Harrison Ford & Helen Mirren to Star in ‘Yellowstone’ Prequel ‘1932’ was the first post.
Don’t do many TV ‘Stuff‘ posts, but ‘Mayans M.C.‘ is also a Category and its first post was Mayans M.C. – American series with the Maya ‘Flavor‘ of the American Culture.
Probably oughta make a Page section for such series ‘n movies… 🤔
